The Blessings of Togetherness

by Deborah Henderlong

After my first Together Group session in winter of 2009, I knew it would become a place for me to openly speak about my questions and feelings about Women's Ministry.

In November 2008, I changed denominations and actively pursued Women's Ministry at my new church.  I was ignorant about how programs at churches functioned. I thought Women's Ministry teams were anxiously waiting for volunteers to facilitate new Bible studies. I thought that Bible Studies were supposed to be at the core of every Women's Ministry. I was a little disappointed when my thoughts weren't matching up with my new church.

With the guidance, education, and prayer from my Together Group, I was able to navigate my overwhelming enthusiasm to know God and share what works for me with the women of my church and the community. I learned so much while listening to the women in my Together Group share their experiences and ideas about what they do and what they want to do in their Women's Ministry.

I learned that any question was not off limits and their suggestions were given with compassion. I learned that this was a safe place for helpful feedback about the real issues and frustrations of being the "new kid on the block.". The ladies in my Together Group encouraged me to continue on my journey. My Together Group has encouraged me, cheered me on and provided comfort all in one.

I thank you, Linda, for the opportunity to be a part of a Together Group. Almost a year later, I am still taking steps toward facilitating a night time Women's Bible Study for our church and the community.  I am so excited to see what God has in store for me and our group.
